Points to help you object to the plans

Loss of the Play Hut, oldest playgroup in Durham (estb 1964)

The Playhut playgroup situated on University land behind the swimming baths, the oldest playgroup in Durham which opened it’s doors to pre-school children in 1964, is about to be closed as the land it currently occupies forms part of the Elvet Waterside development. Despite promises to the contrary the University and Banks the developer now say that closure is imminent as they have been unable to find anywhere for it to be re-housed. This is another shameful loss to the local community as a result of the proposed development. If you feel strongly about this closure, please contact us and we will put you in touch with other concerned individuals.

Bill Bryson recently wrote passionately in the Durham Times about his love of Durham – see press release (no 8) . Bill is also Chairman of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) who campaign against the development and subsequent loss of the English countryside. Why not write a letter or email Bill at the CPRE campaigns@cpre.org.uk and ask him to take a stand against the loss of the green space in the city he obviously loves. See one Durham resident’s letter
